Rožmberk Castle

The sightseeing tour of Rožmberk Castle will take you not only to the time of the last Rožmberk´s, but also represents the famous Buquoy family, owner of the castle from 1620 until the end of World War II.

Rožmberk Castle was build in the middle of the 13th century and is one of the oldest castles of the family Vitkovec, the predecessors of the famous Rosenberg family. The castle is a complex of originally two Rosenberg castles: the Lower Castle and the Upper Castle. The troubled events of the early Thirty Years War resulted in the castle in 1620 being in the hands of the Buquoy family, which belonged to 1945. Jiří Jan Jindřich Buquoy (1814 - 1883), in the spirit of the romantic 19th century feeling, reconstructed Rosenberg museum.

The present form of the castle is the result of the reconstruction in the spirit of romantic Gothic. This is also the responsibility of interior design. For this period, there is a typical entrance hall with a richly decorated staircase, the so-called Crusader Gallery with portraits of crusade leaders, as well as armory with a collection of weapons, armor, etc. from different historical periods. The previous development stage represents the painting decoration of the so-called Knight's Hall, which dates back to the 17th century. Part of the castle is a collection of paintings with the names of famous authors such as K. Škréta and J. Kupecký, as well as portraits of prominent personalities, including Perchta of Rožmberk - ghost named "White Lady", who is here by legend. It is also possible to welcome to the English Tower, which offers a nice view of the castle grounds and the surrounding romantic countryside, as well as Katovna, where you can see torture shows. The castle is open whole year.
