Tichá Fortress

The newly renovated tower of Tichá Fortress stands 28 meters tall and is the southernmost castle observation tower in the Czech Republic. It offers breathtaking views, especially of the Šumava (Bohemian Forest) and the Novohradské Mountains.

Tichá Fortress is located about 4 km southeast of Dolní Dvořiště, on the shore of Hláska Pond in the village of the same name.

How to get there

From Dolní Dvořiště, you can reach Tichá via the red hiking trail in about an hour at a relaxed pace. The trail is also suitable for cyclists. The cycling route No. 1018 also passes through the village.

Additional information

The first written mention of the fortress dates back to 1360. From the original structure, only a 13-meter-high, two-story tower has survived to the present day. Due to its dark interior, it was most likely used as a defensive structure.

Do you know that...

in 2010, the association "Hrady na Malši" took over the renovation of the tower and created an exhibition dedicated, among other things, to the history of the fortress? The fortress thus became part of the ZEMSKÁ CESTA project, which forms a continuous line of Czech and Austrian castles from České Budějovice to the Danube.
