The Castle Garden in Český Krumlov

The Castle Garden in Český Krumlov

The Baroque garden, established in the second half of the 17th century, is the largest part of the Český Krumlov castle complex.

An integral part of the castle complex (and the largest in terms of area) is the Baroque garden, founded in the second half of the 17th century. It is situated on a hill and slope adjoining the southwestern side of the fifth castle courtyard.

The garden consists of four sections:

  • Terrace of the so-called Štěpnice
  • Terrace of the so-called Summer Riding Hall, lined with tall linden trees, which was historically used as a horse-riding training area.
  • Terrace of the so-called Lower Parterre, featuring a partially reconstructed Rococo design, a cascading fountain, sculptures of water deities, a balustrade, vases, and allegories of the four seasons.
  • Terrace of the so-called Upper Garden, with a freely designed landscape, a music pavilion, the Rococo Bellarie summer palace, and a square castle pond.
