The quality and abundance of fruit in South Bohemia inspired Baron Hildprandt in 1885 to establish the Castle Distillery directly opposite his water castle in Blatná, on the site of a sugar factory he had built in 1812. When he founded the distillery, he could not have imagined that his family would be exiled from Bohemia to Ethiopia for over a hundred years.
In the historical heart of Blatná, right next to the picturesque castle with its fairy-tale garden, we combine the tradition of brewing with joy and a love of craftsmanship. Blatná is our beloved home, and it means the world to us. We come from this region, we care for it, and our hearts belong here. That’s why we remain faithful to the 500-year legacy of brewing in Blatná – with humility, passion, and our own unique style.
