The Former Trkal Rocking Stone
Discover the hidden secret of the former rocking stone and the "devil's bowls" on its surface. The surroundings of the boulder are steeped in numerous legends.
The former Trkal rocking stone is located about 1 kilometer from the village of Suchdol near Kunžak. It is easily accessible via the marked blue hiking trail. The granite boulder was once movable, but in the last century, schoolchildren on a field trip rocked it so much that it shifted from its center of gravity and stopped moving forever. Even so, it remains one of the most famous rocking stones in the region and is well worth a visit.
On the surface of the boulder, you can find bowl-shaped depressions of circular or elliptical form, known as “devil’s basins” or “prophecy bowls”. They were most likely formed by erosion and are often filled with water. Legends link the rocking stone to devilish dances, while the bowls are said to contain "living and dead water".
The path to the rocking stone is picturesque and offers beautiful views of the Bohemian Canada landscape in every season.
