South Bohemian Theatre – a unique cultural experience
The cultural heart of South Bohemia can be found in České Budějovice outside the summer season. You can choose from four independent artistic ensembles – drama, opera, ballet, and the Small Theatre. The repertoire also caters to a wide audience and young children from the age of 4.
How to get there
All ensembles perform almost in the city center of České Budějovice. For evening performances, we recommend arriving early and, if traveling by car, heading to the parking lots at Mariánské Square or Senovážné Square.

In recent years, the South Bohemian theatre scene has been striving to break free from the limits of traditional and simplistic theatre by presenting plays with more complex themes (especially social issues). This has given rise to a new, more artistically demanding repertoire concept that serves not only as cultural entertainment but also as an educational and socializing function. At the same time, the themes are relatable to everyone, and the performances receive numerous awards. This is yet another reason why you should attend a performance.
In the spring of 2015, the South Bohemian Theatre established a new creative and educational center called Ateliér 3D.
The South Bohemian Theatre also operates the revolving auditorium in Český Krumlov, where the season takes place during the summer months.
