Additional information

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary (Stožecká kaple) is a wooden pilgrimage chapel built at an altitude of 950 meters in 1791 by Jakoubek Klauser, a blacksmith from Volary, as gratitude for his miraculous healing of eyesight.

The chapel stands over a spring of healing water, believed to have miraculous powers. Due to these healing properties, the chapel became a popular pilgrimage site for people from Bohemia and Bavaria. On August 15, 1920, during the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, more than 5,600 pilgrims from both sides of the border attended religious services.

The main pilgrimage takes place every year on the first Sunday after August 14.
