Birdwatching Tower Vrbenské rybníky
An observation tower in the shape of a triangular pyramid located on the edge of the Starý Houženský pond. The total height of the tower is 9 meters, and birds and the surrounding nature can be observed from a viewing platform at a height of 7 meters
The Vrbenské rybníky Nature Reserve is exceptional primarily for its rare and endangered bird species and is therefore part of the Natura 2000 network as a part of the Českobudějovické rybníky bird area. Besides the large number of birds, the area is also significant for its invertebrate fauna, especially butterflies, with 831 nocturnal species identified here, representing 30% of the butterfly fauna in the Czech Republic. The reserve is also home to an important population of bats that inhabit the cavities of mature trees along the dikes.
For nature lovers, a fun and educational game called "Birdlife of Vrbenské rybníky" has been prepared for wanderings around the Vrbenské rybníky. This augmented reality application allows you to follow the traces of rare birds, listen to their sounds, and learn many interesting facts about them.
