Poluška
Poluška is one of the peaks of the Šumava foothills, with an elevation of 919 meters above sea level. At its summit, there is a base relay station for the radiotelephone network. Its 50-meter-high mast is, however, not accessible to the public.
There are no marked trails leading directly to the summit of Poluška, but it can be reached via forest paths, using sections of cycling routes and marked hiking trails. During the ascent, you will be treated to several clearings in the forest with views over the Kaplická brázka valley, which is shaped by the Malše River and separates Šumava from the Novohradské Mountains.
If you start from Kaplice, take the route towards Omlenička (cycling route 1188). From Omlenička, head north along both the red and blue hiking trails. The blue trail follows an interesting route called "Path of Resistance", leading through the picturesque landscape of the abandoned villages of Velký and Malý Chuchelec and the Lannovy domky homestead. This trail connects memorials to the victims of World War II at Omlenice and Výheň.
To reach Poluška, you need to turn off after about 1 km and climb up the slope along the pastures via the red trail. These sections offer scenic viewpoints. The red trail continues almost to the summit, skirting it along the northern slope, passing through the completely vanished mountain village of Roiden - Rojov. Today, all that remains are a stone memorial, a small chapel, a hidden house ruin, and a peculiar garden. It is hard to believe that in 1920, this village had 20 houses! The deer enclosure near Rojov is a delight, especially for children.
From the red trail, transfer to cycling route No. 1200, a paved road, and follow it left uphill to the final turnoff, where you turn left again. From here, the path climbs directly to the summit. The descent follows the same route or alternative forest roads (a map is recommended).
Kaplice to Poluška and back: approximately 12 km. The ascent takes about two and a half hours.
