Additional information:

The monastery in Milevsko was founded more than eight hundred years ago on a site perceived since ancient times as sacred. Under the leadership of the first Abbot Jarloch, considered to be the successor of Kosmas, it soon became the spiritual, cultural and economic centre of the region. Together with its community, it experienced periods of flourishing and dramatic situations, overcoming the Hussite wars, the Josephine reforms and the totalitarian efforts to liquidate monastic life. In addition to their main mission - the renewal of religious life and pastoral activities in the surrounding parishes - today the local Premonstratensian brothers organize a number of cultural events for the general public.

The monastery grounds are open throughout the tourist season in two guided tours. They are not only a walk through the history of the architecture, but also give an insight into the life of the brothers. The guided tours take visitors through the Basilica of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, the Abbey Chapel, the Paradise Court, the cemetery church of St. Giles, the furnished rooms in the former prelature and the Baroque library in the Latin School. Short-term exhibitions rotate on the ground floor of the baroque prelature.
