Kleť Observation Tower

Kleť Observation Tower

A stone tower, 18 meters high, stands at the summit of Mount Kleť.

The tower, built in a Neo-Gothic style and adorned with battlements, dates back to 1825 and offers views of the České Budějovice and Třeboň Basins, the Novohradské Mountains, and part of Šumava between Český Krumlov and Prachatice.

Between 1824 and 1825, the observation tower served as a trigonometric point for cartographic work and was frequently visited by mapmakers. In 1925, a mountain lodge was built on Kleť, dedicated to Princess Therese of Schwarzenberg. Near the lodge, there is a sundial, the highest in the Czech Republic. Inside the lodge, there is an exhibition on the nature of the Blanský Forest. The lodge offers a pleasant place to spend your vacation or simply to stay overnight after a challenging hike. A highlight is also a visit to the highest observatory in the Czech Republic, located near the lodge.
