Terčino Valley

Terčino Valley

The Terčino Valley (also known as Tereziino Valley) is a nature and landscape park covering an area of 138.3 ha (originally only 68.8 ha), located in the valley of the Stropnice River, about 1 km from Nové Hrady. It was declared a National Natural Monument in 1949. The park, including its buildings and landscape elements, is also protected as a Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic.

The site where the park stands today originally served as a pheasantry for the nobility. In the mid-18th century, Countess Therese Buquoy transformed the pheasantry into an extensive natural park with numerous ornamental trees and shrubs. At the time of its creation, it was called Valloncherie.

Visitors to Terčino Valley can enjoy well-maintained paths with white-painted wooden bridges and benches, as well as several romantic buildings. Highlights include the entrance gate, the Empire-style spa house Václavovy lázně (also called "Lázničky"), the ruins of the Blue House, the Swiss House, the Hammer Mill (now a guesthouse), a 500-year-old oak, and above all, an artificial waterfall, fed by a canal from the Stropnice River.

All of these sites are connected by a 5 km circular educational trail, which introduces visitors to the nature and history of Terčino Valley through modern informational panels.
