Pond Svět
One of the largest ponds in South Bohemia
The Svět (The World) pond with an area of 200 hectares is among the ten largest ponds in southern Bohemia and is fed by the Zlata Stoka. It was built by Jakub Krčín from Jelčany in the 1670s under the name Nevděk. Due to the construction, the Svinenské suburb of the city of Třeboň was demolished. It originally occupied a larger area, but after a flood at the beginning of the 17th century, it was divided into today's Svět and Opatowický ponds. The founder is commemorated by Krčín's statue on the embankment.
