Čestice u Volyně Observation Tower

A telecommunication tower with an adjacent seven-meter platform was opened above the village of Čestice at the end of 1999. The tower offers partial views of Šumava, but primarily of Čestice and its surroundings.

Free of charge - Access to the tower is sometimes restricted due to an electric fence.

How to get there

The observation tower is located on the western edge of the village of Čestice. You can start from the village square, follow the paved road past the church, and after about 300 meters, turn right onto a slight incline. Continue until you reach a turnoff onto a dirt path, which leads the last few meters to the tower.

You can also drive directly to the tower by car. In the village, turn toward the church, and pass it to ascend to the observation tower, where parking is available.

On foot, you can reach the tower from the nearest railway station in Volyně (railway line no. 198 Strakonice - Volary) by following the blue tourist trail. At Nahořany, turn right, and follow the asphalt road to Čestice (approximately 10 km). Another option is to take cycle path no. 121 from Volyně, which follows local roads directly to Čestice.

Is there a commemorative stamp available?

No

Additional information

The tower is located on a hill above the village near the local waterworks at an altitude of 595 meters above sea level.

On Kalvárie, a neighboring hill, there is a Classicist chapel of the Way of the Cross from 1820, and lower in the village is a Romanesque church. Not far below the chapel, you will find a beautifully painted hermitage. The keys can be borrowed from a holder on the fence of a house below the chapel.
