Prachatice Museum

Prachatice Museum

The Prachatice Museum was founded in 1904 on the initiative of the Museum Association and was originally located on the ground floor of the town hall.

It wasn’t until 1946 that it moved to the Žďárský House on Velké náměstí, also known as Sitter’s House. This is a Renaissance-style townhouse with a Gothic core. With its ornate decoration, it is one of the most beautiful houses in Prachatice. The author of the decoration is Šebestián Hájek, a painter from Prachatice, whose Mannerist-style paintings on the facade are particularly remarkable. The museum hosts several permanent exhibitions, such as: Insights into the history of the town, the life of Saint John of Nepomuk Neumann, the Goldsteig − the Path of White Gold, and the Renaissance − the golden era of the town under imperial rule.
