Svákov Observation Tower
A wooden observation tower located on the site of an ancient Slavic fortified settlement offers views of Soběslav and the Marian chapel, next to which is a spring with allegedly healing water. The total height of the tower is 14 meters, with the viewing platform at 10 meters.
Svákov is an ideal spot for lovers of old legends, especially those with a vivid imagination. On the high bluff above the Lužnice River, just across from the town of Soběslav, there once stood a powerful fortification inhabited by people from the Bronze Age, later by Celts, and then Slavs. Those who can dream might imagine high ramparts and palisades, palace towers, smoke rising from forges, and warriors silently guarding the river below.
Today, the settlement is overgrown with shrubs and forest. The ramparts that protected the ancient city from the west are still unmistakable, with a clear gate cutting through them. A yellow trail leads from Soběslav to the fort. Midway up, there's a romantic gazebo, and those who pass through the ramparts will find the wooden observation tower with views of the entire Soběslav landscape and the beginning of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, marked by the peak of Choustník rising as the first bastion of the new hilly terrain.

How to get there
Near the lookout tower, the yellow hiking trail ends, which starts at the Soběslav train station. The forest path to the lookout tower has been recently renovated and is suitable for both pedestrians and cyclists. Another option is access from the Soběslav - Nedvědice road.
About 800 meters before the village of Nedvědice, there is an entrance to the forest on the right side. Here, you can park your car and reach the lookout tower via a one-kilometer forest path.
