The historic core of the town is traversed by the educational trail "Prachatické hradby."

prachatické hradby proudly showcase a well-preserved fortification system dating back to the 14th century. The historic core of the town is traversed by the educational trail "Prachaticé Walls," which introduces visitors to the construction of the city fortifications, their significance, and essential components.

In the past, from the 14th century onwards, the town of Prachatice was fortified with defensive walls. There were only two gates through which one could enter the town. The Lower Gate, also known as the Písecká Gate, is still standing today. The Upper Gate, or Pasovská Gate, was the first to welcome packhorses arriving with salt from German Passau along the Golden Route. Near the Upper Gate used to be a fortification pond, which supplied water to the defensive moat in times of threat. Currently, the site of the former fortification pond and moat has been converted into a city park featuring rare deciduous and coniferous trees.
