Hradiště Věnec Lčovice

Set out on the Celtic Trail.

The Věnec hillfort, with its massive stone walls, was likely a princely power center in the late Hallstatt period, overseeing the entire Volyňka River valley and protecting the trade route from the Austrian Salzkammergut. This function is suggested by the discovery of an imported, ornate bronze belt, which could not have belonged to just a local lord but rather a prince, a ruler of a much larger territory.

The Hallstatt-era hillfort of Věnec is located on the southwestern summit of the Pržmo massif, which dominates the landscape above the Volyňka valley. The name Věnec refers only to the hillfort itself and was likely given due to the massive stone walls surrounding the peak.

The Věnec hillfort is part of the Celtic Trail, which runs from Kubova Huť, through Boubín, the village of Buk, and Mářský vrch, to Věnec.
