City Blatná

City Blatná

This South Bohemian city is a beloved place for filmmakers.

The town of Blatná, surrounded by beautiful artificial lakes, is set in a gently rolling landscape that borders the forested Brdy massif to the north and opens to the Šumava mountains to the south.

In this privileged location stands the fabulous Blatná Castle, surrounded by water. It is one of the best-preserved structures of its kind in the Czech Republic. Next to the castle stretches a 42-hectare park, where visitors can observe a herd of very tame European fallow deer grazing freely in the meadows, as well as a group of peacocks.

This town on the banks of the Lomnice River was the birthplace of the first Resonet electric guitars, which gained great international recognition, just like the roses cultivated by gardener Jan Böhm, earning Blatná the nickname "Blatná, the city of roses."

The historic center of Blatná is today a relaxing heritage area visited by various generations. The history and local development are showcased in a permanent regional exhibition at the town museum. Blatná also offers numerous cultural activities and opportunities for active leisure.
