From Frymburk by ferry to Vítkův Hrádek and St. Thomas

The highest situated castle in the Czech Republic

The road to the top of Vítkův Hrádek Castle leads through the beautiful Šumava forest, still up to 1053 m. First you have to cross the ferry from nearby Frymburk to the opposite Frýdava and then along the asphalt road or the forest towards the top of Vítkův kámen (Vítek´s Stone) about 6 km. On the opposite side, the small village of Svatý Tomáš (St. Thomas) lies 970 meters above sea level. In its surroundings there is a beautiful landscape with plenty of protected plants, which is found outside the deer and deer game as well as the feature and the lot.

After a beautiful walk to the top, on foot, by bike or by car, you can see: a church from the 13th century, a Schwarzenberg hunting lodge from 1860 and about 83 meters above the village ruins of a castle castle of the 13th century Vítkův castle (the highest castle in the Czech Republic) the observation platform, on whose rescue was established the civic association Vítkův Hrádek for reconstruction of Vítkův castle. In nice weather you can see the beautiful panorama of the Alps. Vítkův Hrádek has open-air refreshments with seating. In Svatý Tomáš there is a stylish pub at the church and a guest house with accommodation.
