To see animals and mud in the Bohemian Forest

Start in the village of Borová Lada, where the information center of the Šumava Administration is located in a small village with an interactive exhibition connected to a nearby lake called Chalupská Slatina. Then you can go to Borová Lada, where you can visit the visitor center dedicated to owls.

Chalupská slať is called a transitional type between the valley highlands created along the Vltava river and Křemelná and the mountain highlands from the plateau of Šumavské Pláně. The Chalupská Slatina site itself includes two large hills, namely the Chalupská slata and the New World Wing. They are then joined by a shallow layer of peat in a peat complex, lying in a wide valley that has an elongated shape.

Chalupská slať is located 1.5 km from the central car park of Borová Lada. It is accessible only on a wooden walkway. On the way to the pond you can see on the right side an extensive lowered area without kennel stands. Why do we draw attention to this? Because this area was mined several decades ago, it was stripped of its kennel growths and partly flooded. At the end of the wooden walkway there is a platform that offers a wonderful view of the largest peat bog in the Czech Republic. The pond stretches over 1.3 hectares and has a deepest depth of 1.5 m. In the pond, there are romantic peat islands with a number of rare plant species.

From Swan Ladies, go to the village of Kvilda, where you can begin your trip to Jezerní Slati and to the Kvilda Visitor Center in the information center of Šumava National Administration with an interactive exhibition devoted to the Šumava animals.

Jezerní slat is the high peat bog located between Horská Kvilda and Kvilda and is partly accessible on a wooden walkway. For a better view of the countryside, we recommend climbing to the top of a two-story observation tower, which stands on the edge of the peat bog and masks the grown trees thoroughly. Kvildská Jezerní Slatina is part of the large complexes of peat bogs in the Czech Republic, as its total area around 190 ha is one of the largest peat bogs in the Bohemian Forest.

The great attraction of Jezerní mlat is the fact that it is one of the busiest places in the Czech Republic. Because even during the summer months, the temperature falls even at the freezing point. Thanks to this climate, there are some cold-blooded species of plants such as bark beetles, dwarf birch, etc.

Visitor Center Kvilda invites tourists to a nature trail dedicated to the deer inhabitants of the Bohemian Forest. With a deer with an area of ​​about 9 hectares, the educational circuit passes through elevated view shelters. Besides the enclosure, there is an educational circuit that introduces the traces of cervids, wild pigs and some local trees and plants.

Favorable information is the fact that the whole circuit is fully accessible to visitors with physical restrictions (assistance is recommended).
