Climb to the peaks of the Hen Mountains
What kind of Hen Mountains would they be if their highest peak wasn’t called Kohout, standing at 871 meters above sea level? But it’s not just about him...
A few years ago, the summit offered views from the platform of an old wooden lookout tower. Today, there is only an inaccessible transmission tower at the top, and the area is forested. However, in addition to the tower, there is also a trigonometric point, marked here during the national land survey in 1867. The neighboring Vysoký kámen, better known by its popular name Slepice (865 m above sea level), offers more interesting views from the summit. The red tourist trail, which brings visitors to Slepice from the direction of Benešov nad Černou, passes over the so-called Heavenly Steps and the rocky ridge at the end. According to legends, fire signals were sent from this mountain to the surrounding area, and during the Celtic era, the mountain was a cult site. There are trails from other directions to ascend Slepice. The yellow trail leads from the east from Klení, and the red trail or cycling route 1187 from the west from Děkanské Skály, through Velké Skaliny, Daleké Popelice, and Myslivna pod Kohoutem, where there is a crossroads: northwards is the ascent to Kohout, and southwards (about a hundred meters along the asphalt road, then turn right) is the ascent to Vysoký kámen.
