Educational Trail Terčino Valley

The trail starts and ends at the entrance gate on the road from Nové Hrady to Horní Stropnice or at the parking lot in the valley opposite the former brewery.

From the Nové Hrady square, the best way to reach Terčino Valley on foot is via Údolská Street (northwest corner of the square next to the town hall). At the crossroads in the valley, continue toward Horní Stropnice.

The Terčino Valley National Nature Monument (NPP) was declared in 1992 (originally a state nature reserve in 1949) on an area of 139.29 hectares. The first modifications to the romantic landscape of the Stropnice River valley were initiated by Countess Theresa Buquoy in 1765. According to the oldest preserved plan from 1770, the park was called "Beautiful Valley," where the Blue House, Wenceslas Baths, Swiss House, Hammer Mill, artificial waterfall, and other landscaping elements were gradually added. After the park was handed over to the countess's nephew George, he renamed it "Theresa's Valley." The park represents an exceptional example of early landscape design and is one of the most significant historical parks in the Czech Republic.

At the end of Terčino Valley stands the late Gothic fortress Cuknštejn. It is one of the best-preserved knightly residences in the Czech lands, largely in its original form, serving as a rare example of the transition between a manor house and a nobleman's castle.

The trail passes through the most interesting parts of Terčino Valley, introducing visitors to its history, landscaping features, flora, and fauna.
