From Pohoří na Šumavě to the Highest Peak, Novohradské mount
One of the recommended hiking trips from the starting point in Pohoří na Šumavě follows the green hiking trail to the Austrian border near the village of Stadlberg.
On the way to the border, you can take a detour to the Czech source of the Lužnice River and then continue along the blue hiking trail, which follows the state border to the highest peak of the Novohradské Mountains – Kamenec (1072 m). Along this border trail, you will encounter historic wayside shrines, a restored spring with a rest area, and a historic signpost at the so-called Šance, marking the triple border point between Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and South Bohemia. On the Czech side, you can also find remnants of old buildings that once served as homes and workplaces.
From Kamenec, the trail follows the green hiking route back to Pohoří na Šumavě. The entire circuit is 13 km long and is considered moderately difficult, especially in the Kamenec area.
