Cycling Trip: Český Krumlov – Zlatá Koruna – Dívčí Kámen

A cycling trip from Český Krumlov to Zlatá Koruna with a visit to the ruins of Dívčí Kámen Castle.

Visitors to Zlatá Koruna will find themselves in a pristine and beautiful natural setting, cut through by the valley of the clear waters of the Vltava River, which surrounds the village on three sides. The monastery itself is enclosed by its own wall, and on its southwestern side, it is connected to the outer monastery, which is also fortified. The architectural centerpiece of the monastery is the convent church (a three-nave basilica with a transept).

The ruins of Dívčí Kámen Castle are located near the village of Třísov, 5 kilometers north of Zlatá Koruna. The castle once stood on a high rocky promontory, surrounded by the Vltava River and the Křemežský Stream, which merges with the Vltava below the castle. It is one of the largest and best-preserved medieval castle ruins in the Czech Republic. The entire area of Dívčí Kámen has been designated as a nature reserve.

Route description

Český Krumlov – Zlatá Koruna – Dívčí Kámen

Zlatá Koruna

Zlatá Koruna is a perfect rest stop for boaters, hikers, and cyclists—an ideal place to refresh yourself along the route. You can take a break either at the riverside campsite or in the historic part of the village, adjacent to the monastery.

Zlatá Koruna Monastery

The Cistercian monastery of Zlatá Koruna is largely composed of medieval buildings (church, cloister, chapter hall, Chapel of the Guardian Angels, abbey), some of which have been modified in the Baroque style. The monastery is managed by the National Heritage Institute.

After visiting the monastery, return about two kilometers along the Vltava Trail, before turning onto cycling route no. 1127, which leads through the villages of Plešovice and Třísov to the ruins of Dívčí Kámen Castle.

Dívčí Kámen

A visit to the ruins of the Gothic castle Dívčí Kámen is definitely worthwhile.
The castle was built between 1350 and 1360, but by 1506, the Rosenberg nobility had abandoned it, and it was no longer maintained.

You can refresh yourself at the nearby Hamr restaurant, or on the way back to Český Krumlov, stop for a delicious meal at the Na Letné inn in Srnín.
