Around Bezdrev and Across the Dams of Vrbenské Ponds

A relaxing trip from Hluboká nad Vltavou through the picturesque South Bohemian pond landscape, suitable for cyclists and hikers alike.

This easy trip takes you through the flat and scenic South Bohemian pond region, making it ideal for cyclists and, with slight route adjustments, also for hikers. Along the way, you can go for a swim, taste excellent beer, visit the zoo, or explore the Vrbenské Ponds nature reserve. The 22 km route follows paved and gravel roads.

Route:

Central parking lot in Hluboká nad Vltavou – towards Munický Pond, then left along its dam to Zoo Ohrada – via Cycle Route 1082 to Bezdrev Pond – around Bezdrev to Čejkovice – via Cycle Route 1109 to Haklovy Dvory – (optional detour to Nové Dvory – mini brewery) – via Cycle Routes 1108 and 1109, crossing the dams of Starohaklovský, Starý Houženský, Černiš, Starý and Nový Vrbenský Ponds – crossing the main road into České Vrbné – at the water sports area, connect to Cycle Route 12 and return to Hluboká nad Vltavou.

What to See and Do:

  • Hluboká nad Vltavou – Visit Hluboká Castle, try adrenaline activities at the sports and leisure park, play golf, relax at the swimming area, visit Zoo Ohrada, or go horse riding at the Vondrov equestrian center.
  • Bezdrev Pond – The second-largest pond in both South Bohemia and the Czech Republic, perfect for swimming and water fun at its beach and aquapark with inflatable attractions.
  • Čejkovice – A charming village with several farmhouses in the South Bohemian Baroque style (e.g., house No. 12), St. John of Nepomuk Chapel from the mid-19th century, and a former Baroque manor farm.
  • Haklovy Dvory – Visit the old smithy with a bell tower in the village square and explore newly renovated historical buildings. This equestrian village offers horseback riding experiences.
  • Nové Dvory – Taste the famous Czech beer at Mini Brewery Kněžínek, take a brewery tour, and enjoy other services at the brewery complex, located between Starohaklovský and Starý Houženský Ponds.
  • Vrbenské Ponds – Explore the scenic dikes, lined with majestic oak trees that have strengthened them for centuries. Follow the Nature Trail Across the Dams of Vrbenské Ponds, where 10 stops will introduce you to the local flora, fauna, and rare water birds.
