Černívský Pond

It was a beautiful summer day, and I was wandering around South Bohemia alongside my human. My friend Puňťa was looking down at me from the sky, and my sister was waiting for me back home. I was really happy that I went on this journey with just my human. It’s much easier to walk this way, and besides, I only had to take care of one girl. Watching over two girls is a bit more challenging, and everyone deserves a little break from guarding now and then.

My paws carried me along a paved path, straight after my nose. Before I knew it, I caught the scent of water. I looked around carefully, and yes, there it was. Just a few steps away, I saw more water than I had seen in a long time. I even spotted a path that led easily into the water. But I resisted.

Slowly and cautiously, I padded along the path leading to the water and took a side path instead. The side path led me to the dam of the pond. I walked along the dam, with plenty of water right by my paws. To my right, I saw rocks and little houses. To my left, I spotted a church. Right in front of me was the water, but I couldn’t see its end.

Slowly, I continued along the dam. I didn’t approach the water. My human couldn’t believe her eyes. Even I couldn’t believe my own. Why I didn’t feel like going into the water, I still don’t know.

I crossed the dam and darted through the forest. Before I knew it, I was on a rock near the houses, with the pond at my feet. I spotted some duck friends and a family of swans. I saw plenty of fish near the surface of the pond. The aquatic world was at my paws, and I just admired it. Once the ducks and swans swam away, I moved on.

I padded along a soft forest path, with a swamp between me and the pond. Everywhere to my left was wonderfully fragrant mud. I saw fallen trees and decaying plants. I spotted stumps that had become home to mosses, fungi, bugs, and other plants. I saw intriguing nooks that even maps don’t know about.

By the time I had a few kilometers in my paws, after seeing many hidden corners, and as I was walking along the paved path back to the Toyota, it hit me: it was time to submerge my whole self into the refreshing water. In the first spot where there were no trees along the path, I headed to the water. I slid down a little hill and jumped in. What happened next still baffles me.

As I landed in the water, there was a splash. I was standing belly-deep in the water, but that was all. I had expected to dive in and swim. But no, that didn’t happen. So, I ventured further into the pond, toward its center. I padded around boulders, the shore far behind my tail. But the water didn’t get any deeper. I kept walking and walking, until I heard my name from far away. I turned around and realized I was nearly in the middle of the pond, with the shore far behind me.

What else could I do? My human was calling me from the shore. She wanted me to come back. As she wished, so it happened. I didn’t get to swim, but at least I refreshed myself. And besides, the walk around Černívský Pond gave me so much. I strolled through stunning nature. I saw many beautiful hidden spots. And not swimming? That’s okay, because I’ve got a swimming pond right behind my house. I’ll make up for it there.
