Plav

Just like in Vidov, an ancient burial site with burial mounds was discovered in the nearby forest of Plav, proving that this area was inhabited as early as prehistoric times.

Other interesting sites in and around the village are naturally linked to water, with bridges, footbridges, and river structures playing a significant role.

Bridges and technical monuments:

  • Jubilee Bridge of Emperor and King Franz Joseph I: An important transport connection over the Malše River, built in 1913.
  • Berkův Footbridge: Built in 1823 over a mill canal, this is the last preserved bridge of its kind in the České Budějovice region.
  • Rechle: The most significant technical monument of Plav, listed as a cultural heritage site of the Czech Republic. Built between 1895 and 1896, this iron bridge on high stone pillars was designed to capture floating timber during log rafting. The wood was transported from the Buquoy forests near Nové Hrady to České Budějovice.

Cultural landmarks:

  • Statue of St. John of Nepomuk: A metal statue standing on a high rock above the Malše River, created in 1882 to commemorate a flood that was successfully averted. It was declared a cultural monument in 2006.

Plav Water Treatment Plant:
Located on the border between Plav and Heřmaň, the Plav Water Treatment Plant was built between 1973 and 1982. It processes water from the Římov Reservoir and supplies drinking water to over 370,000 residents of South Bohemia. Organized groups, especially schoolchildren and youth, can arrange guided tours upon request.
