Museum of the Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal
A museum with a permanent exhibition showcasing the work of J. Rosenauer, the creator of the Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal.
The Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal Museum in Chvalšiny is housed in a renovated historic building located in the main square of the village, which is the birthplace of Josef Rosenauer, the creator of the canal.
The museum exhibits provide visitors with information about the nature and natural monuments of the Bohemian Forest. However, the main focus is on Josef Rosenauer and his work – visitors can see exhibits documenting his life, historical documents, paintings, photographs, and artifacts that provide a comprehensive picture of the creation, significance, and current state of the canal and its surroundings. The exhibition is complemented by displays on forestry and the timber industry in the Bohemian Forest.
A visit to the museum offers Bohemian Forest enthusiasts a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge about the history and function of this structure and learn more about its creator. Where else but in the Chvalšiny Museum can you see a complete model of the construction, learn the difference between „Dřeváky“ and „Mejšlaty“, and find out what „Sáhové stones“ are?
