Terčino údolí
Terčino (also Tereziino) údolí is a natural landscape park covering an area of 138.3 hectares (originally only 68.8 hectares), located in the valley of the Stropnice stream, about 1 km from Nové Hrady. It was declared a national natural monument in 1949. The park, including buildings and landscaping elements, is also protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The site where the park now stands originally served as a pheasantry for the nobility. In the mid-18th century, at the request of Countess Terezie Buquoy, the pheasantry was transformed into an extensive natural park with a variety of ornamental trees and shrubs. At the time of its creation, it was called Valloncherie.
When you visit Terčino údolí, you’ll find well-maintained paths with white-painted wooden bridges and benches, along with several romantic buildings. You can admire the entrance gate, the Empire-style Václavovy Baths (so-called "láznicky"), the ruins of the so-called Blue House, the Swiss House, the hammer mill (now a guesthouse), a 500-year-old oak, and above all, the artificial waterfall, which is fed by a channel from the Stropnice stream. Everything is connected by a 5 km long circular educational trail, which introduces you to both the nature and history of Terčino údolí through modernly designed information panels.
