Discover the beauty of the Vltava Trail: the ideal destination for your leisure time

The Vltava Trail, stretching from Boršov nad Vltavou to Kořensko, is a unique route that offers a wealth of activities for all lovers of nature, sport and relaxation. This article will introduce you to the leisure activities on the Vltava Trail and why you should definitely visit this beautiful part of South Bohemia. Along its route you will meet well-known South Bohemian towns with other activities such as České Budějovice, Hluboká nad Vltavou or Týn nad Vltavou.

The Vltava Trail offers a wide range of activities. Whether on or near the water. Head to the Vltava, Malše and Munický Pond for fun, culture and exploration. There is something for everyone! Adrenaline junkies, families with children, history explorers and culture lovers.

Shipping: your key to the South Bohemia experience

One of the irresistible attractions of the Vltava Trail is the regular boat transport, which offers a unique opportunity to discover the beauty of South Bohemia from the deck of a boat. This cruise allows you to move comfortably between different sections of the river, whether it's the route between České Budějovice and Hluboká nad Vltavou, a longer journey to the Hněvkovice dam or rides around Týn nad Vltavou - for example, via the lock to Orlík (The Vltava Trail). The views from the water surface are specific and beautiful, especially in the section of the Karvanice Rocks on the route Hluboká nad Vltavou - Purkarec or in the Kořensko section behind Týn nad Vltavou. When boating, take into account that the boat does not go as fast as a car and therefore it takes more time to cover the same distances. For families with children, themed cruises with a guide are available to enrich your trip with interesting stories and historical facts, making your cruise an unforgettable experience. A popular cruise for families is also across Munický Pond to the ZOO in Hluboká. Cyclists will welcome the ferry in Purkarec.

But if you are looking for more adventure and want to be the master of your own time, the Vltava Trail offers you the opportunity to become the captain of your own vessel! You can rent a motorboat or houseboat, for which you do not need a driving licence. Just choose your vessel, listen to the training, get on board and set off to explore the river on your own. This unique experience will allow you to explore the hidden corners of the Vltava, dock where you are most interested, and enjoy your trip to the fullest.

The experience we definitely recommend is a cruise through the lock. Either on your own or with a regular cruise line. The locks overcome various water level differences from 2 to 17 meters.

Imagine sailing along scenic shores with the wind in your hair, stopping for lunch at one of the restaurants, or exploring magical nooks and crannies that are inaccessible from land. This freedom and flexibility makes cruising the Vltava Trail not only a great experience, but also an opportunity to create your own tailor-made adventure.

Whether you choose a comfortable regular cruise or an exciting trip on a rented boat, the Vltava Trail will welcome you with open arms and offer you unforgettable moments on the water. Come and experience what it is like to be the captain of your own trip and discover South Bohemia from a new perspective!

Sports activities

If you are a fan of active recreation, the Vltava Trail will offer you a wide range of sporting activities. For lovers of cycling, there is a high-quality cycle path running along the river, which connects Boršov nad Vltavou with Týn nad Vltavou. This route is ideal for both recreational cyclists and families with children. Look for the sign  Eurovelo 7 or the Vltava Cycling Route.

For those who prefer water sports, there is the possibility to rent the aforementioned motor boats or paddleboards, pedal boats, kayaks or take a ride on the wild water in the Lída Polesná area. Rental shops are strategically located along the entire route, for example in České Budějovice, Hluboká nad Vltavou or Týn nad Vltavou. The paddling section between Boršov nad Vltavou and České Budějovice, which is very quiet and suitable for beginners or small children, is also worth mentioning.

Bathing

On warm days, tips on places to swim along the Vltava Trail will definitely come in handy. There are both traditional swimming areas and river accesses. Typical for the Vltava River (but also for the Malše) are the bathing piers that are located along the river. They serve for better access to the water as well as for the possibility of stopping boats.

An overview of bathing places in Budejovice here.

Refreshments

In addition to swimming spots, many refreshment stops are being created along the river. On the maps we have marked places where you can stop along the rivers - the Vltava, Malše or Lužnice - and let time pass, recharge your batteries or watch the river and its positive waves.

Map refreshments along the route of the Vltava Trail from Boršov nad Vltavou to Kořensko.

We would love it if you could let us know on social media which is your favourite stop, which one made you happy, saved you or if we missed any.

Events by the water

These events are definitely not to be missed when you sail on the Vltava or cruise its banks. Events where people come from all over the country and you have them just a stone's throw from the river. Include them in your plan and make your trip more interesting!
